Origami Decor

I have had these origami balls sitting on my bookcase for at least 7 years. This week, I saw an episode of the Nate Berkus show in which they had similar origami balls sitting on a side table.

The episode was about reusing and recycling. They used paper and magazines to make the origami balls.
My daughter made my origami balls and boxes out of wallpaper samples. We got the wallpaper samples from a local paint store that had some books of wallpaper samples that had been discontinued.

I love these sitting on my bookcase. Click here for the link to instructions posted by the Nate Berkus show.  You will need to scroll down toward the bottom of the link and look for the Origami Accessories Supplies.

I also found this video at Michaels on how to make these origami flower balls.

Have you decorated with any origami objects?

Silver Display

Happy Wednesday! I hope your week has been going great. It is really going fast for me. But I'm always looking forward to the weekend so I can get to crafting. I made this silver display this last weekend.

Recently, I found a post at Joys of Home of different silverware projects Joy has made. One project was of a silver tray with silver flatware, it just stood out and I could hear it calling to me. I have some silver trays and some silver flatware that was given to me. I have never used them in all the years I have had them. I love the idea of showing them off! Otherwise they would still be tucked into the back of the kitchen drawer where no one would ever see them.

I used a round tray and an oval server. To attach the scrapbook paper, I used Mod Podge. I tied the flatware with ribbon and then attached the flatware with hot glue to the trays.

I am so thrilled to have found a way to display this silver in my kitchen.

Do you have a special way to display your silver?

Pinwheel Wreath

Last week, my youngest daughter and I made this fun spring pinwheel wreath. We found a great tutorial over at Neverland Nook. Sabrina's tutorial has great pictures and she shows you how to make a pinwheel and then how to make the wreath.

I loved picking out the paper for this project. I found fun spring prints some had flip flops and others had flowers. For the opposite side I used more mono tone papers with small dots and stripes.

I also wrapped my foam wreath with a coordinating ribbon. We cut our pinwheels 4"x4" so they where a little smaller than Sabrina's and did not fill up the whole wreath. With the wreath wrapped you are not able to see the foam.

I love this on my front door and it will be up for a while. I think it is a whimsical display for spring and summer. And boy does it feel like summer already.

Wooden Spool Wreath

I wanted to make something with old wooden spools, the problem was going to be finding the spools. So one day our family went on the hunt in an antique store in a neighboring town. With everyone on the look out for spools we found some (two big ziplock bags full) of both the large and small wooden spools.

We even found a bonus! This Big wooden spool. Our family had so much fun at the antique store. We always find things that bring back memories.

Anyway, once I had the spools I had to decide what to make. I found a spool wreath on a Hobby Lobby inspiration sheet. You can find my inspiration here online with Hobby Lobby.

I wrapped and glued the middle of the spools with scrapbook paper. I used four colors that went with my decor.

I wrapped a wire wreath with ribbon. Be sure to glue the ribbon onto the wreath because the spools become heavy and will pull the ribbon off the wire if it is not secured.

Hot glue the bigger spools onto the wreath first. There will be gaps that can be filled in later.

I then used the small spools to fill in the gaps and make the wreath look fuller.

Here is my spool wreath. I have more spools and can't wait to try some of the other ideas in the Hobby Lobby project sheet.

What do you think? What have you made with old spools?

Graduation Bunting

I have not one but two loved ones graduating this week. I am so proud of them both. My oldest daughter is graduating from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and my husband is graduating with his Masters from the University of Oklahoma. I wanted to create something special that the whole family could see and enjoy through the week.

For inspiration I headed to the place everyone goes, Pinterest.

I found this bunting from Japanistic Blog

The inspiration is paper bunting with washi tape used to decorate the bunting. With the pinspiration I need to make a graduation bunting, I grabbed my supplies and got started.

Like the Pinterest post, I used paper for the bunting and letters and decorated the bunting with washi tape. Since I was decorating for graduates from two schools, I used the school colors from both schools. I used green and white for "Grads" and crimson and cream (I prefer orange and black) for "2012".

After cutting out the bunting and letters, I placed the washi tape and then glued on the letters.

I made a special flag for both grads with a picture and washi tape.

It was a great surprise for them when they came in the door. And I had so much fun making something special for us all to enjoy.

Are you making something special for a graduate?

Summer Subway Art

I love printable Subway Art. It is a quick way to change the look on a mantel or table. There is subway art for all different occasions. I just printed this summer subway art by Eighteen25.

Jen at Upcycled Education created this great subway art for graduation. I will be printing this and using it this week since I have two graduates. My oldest daughter is graduating from Northeastern State University of Oklahoma and my husband is graduating with his Masters from the University of Oklahoma. I'm so proud of them both.

Here's a printable I found for Mother's Day. It can be downloaded from Ladybugs Crafts and 14 in a variety of colors.

Let me know what Subway Art you are using.

Fun with Words

I have come across this great web site where words are used to form a cloud or image. The website is Tagxedo and the possibilities are endless.

Words can be taken from a blog, news article, or enter your own words to make it personal. Choose the image or cloud and colors for your image. Then you can save, print or share the image.

I have been thinking about Valentines day and these would make a cute gift. Just print and frame.

Make your own word cloud here.

Happy crafting,
